PRESS RELEASE: New Division of National Fraud Enforcement
PRESS RELEASE
January 8, 2026
President Trump today announced the upcoming creation of a new division within the U.S. Department of Justice dedicated to national fraud enforcement. According to the White House, the new division will strengthen the Department’s efforts to combat criminal and civil fraud nationwide, including fraud targeting federal government programs, federally funded benefits, businesses, nonprofit organizations, and private citizens.
The new division will be led by an Assistant Attorney General responsible for overseeing the investigation, prosecution, and remediation of fraud affecting the federal government and federally funded programs. The division will coordinate multi-district and multi-agency investigations, support U.S. Attorneys’ Offices on fraud-related matters, and collaborate with federal partners to detect and address complex fraud operations that span multiple jurisdictions.
In addition, the division will help establish national enforcement priorities and advise senior Department leadership on high-impact fraud cases, while recommending legislative and regulatory reforms to address systemic vulnerabilities and prevent future abuse.
Jacklyn DeMar remarked, “We hope this initiative reflects a serious, nationwide approach to combating fraud. Centralizing enforcement and strengthening coordination across agencies should allow the Department of Justice to be better positioned to protect public resources and hold fraudsters accountable wherever they operate.”
