WASHINGTON, D.C. — Senators Chuck Grassley (R-Iowa) and Ron Wyden (D-Ore.) unveiled new legislation to strengthen the Internal Revenue Service’s (IRS) Whistleblower Awards Program.
In response, Taxpayers Against Fraud Education Fund President & CEO Jeb White released the following statement:
“We applaud Senators Grassley and Wyden for unveiling this important legislation to strengthen the IRS Whistleblower Program. This successful program enabled the IRS to collect more than $6 billion from millionaires and big businesses caught dodging taxes, and the seven measures included in The IRS Whistleblower Program Improvement Act is a huge step forward toward realizing the programs full potential and the value whistleblowers add to enforcement.”
The IRS Whistleblower Program was created by the Tax Relief and Health Care Act of 2006, incentivizing private individuals to assist The IRS in rooting out tax fraud.
