DoJ Sues Mortgage Company
Robert S. Luce, president and founder of MDR Mortgage Corp, has been sued under the False Claims Act by the U.S. Department of Justice for falsely representing to HUD that he was not under criminal investigation or indictment. In fact, Luce was under indictment for mail fraud, wire fraud, and obstruction of justice in another matter. So far, HUD has had to pay more than $1.6 million to settle 90 FHA-insured loans made by MDR which were later defaulted on.

CFTC Whistleblower Rules Ahead
The Dodd Frank Wall Street Reform and Consumer Protection Act required the U.S. Commodity Futures Trading Commission (CFTC) to propose and adopt its own set of whistleblower rules. The CFTC proposed its rules in December 2010 and, after a brief hiccup due to a small procedural issue, those rules are expected to be finalized later this month. >> To read more
