TAF Names New Executive Director
Neil Getnick, Chairman of the Board of Taxpayers Against Fraud (TAF) and the TAF Education Fund, announced that Susan Strawn has been named Executive Director of TAF and the TAF Education Fund, replacing Jeb White who has joined TAF's and TAFEF's Boards of Directors.
Strawn comes to TAF after spending fourteen years as a Department of Justice Trial Attorney and Special Assistant U.S. Attorney within the Civil Division, advising client agencies and leading teams in complex investigations and litigation. She has extensive experience in civil and criminal litigation in trial and appellate courts, has defended congressional and federal agency actions, prosecuted complex government fraud cases (including pharmaceutical cases), and handled civil penalty and injunctive actions.
Just prior to coming to TAF, Susan was an attorney and adjunct professor at the University of Houston Law Center teaching courses on anti-corruption and development, a position she took following stints serving as Resident Advisor for the U.S. Department of Justice in Kosovo and the U.S. Treasury Department in Dakar, Senegal, where she advised foreign governments on prosecution of financial crimes. Susan, a graduate of Princeton University and the University of Texas School of Law, has received nine awards for her exemplary government service.
"We are elated to have Susan Strawn head the TAF team," said Neil Getnick, "and we know that her skills and experience will be particularly valuable as we continue to strengthen the Federal and state False Claims Acts, advance the IRS Whistleblower program, and see the first cases filed under the new SEC Whistleblower law."
"The period ahead is very promising," said Getnick. "Thanks to the excellent work of Jeb White and the TAF staff, we have a stronger federal False Claims Act and more state False Claims Acts than ever before. We have managed to forge a congenial community of lawyers and whistleblowers that bring larger and better cases to the attention of the U.S. Department of Justice and state Attorneys General. We look forward to expanding upon this success with Susan Strawn and TAF forging an excellent relationship not only with DoJ, the State AGs, and the Internal Revenue Service, but now the Securities and Exchange Commission as well."
"We are greatly indebted to the TAF staff for their excellent work between Executive Directors, and especially to Cleveland Lawrence III, Director of Legal Education, who served as Acting Executive Director in the interim," said Getnick.
