NY's Stolen Medicaid Money
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo filed suit last February against People’s Choice Surgical Supplies, Inc. seeking to recover $11 million in fraudulent Medicaid claims. Now Cuomo's office has also filed criminal charges against three company officials alleging they stole over $1 million in Medicaid funds by submitting false claims using stolen doctor identities. >>To read more
New Orleans Medicaid Recovery
West Jefferson Medical Center has agreed to pay $3.3 million to resolve allegations it overcharged Louisiana's Medicaid program by claiming its Pediatric Intensive Care Unit (PICU) had the capability to perform certain critical care services for which Medicaid pays a premium. >> To read more
5 Pharma Co's Settle With AL
Five drug companies, including Bristol-Myers Squibb, have settled with the state of Alabama over charges they manipulated the Average Wholesale Price of drugs in order to price-gouge the state's Medicaid program. The other four companies, and the amount of the settlements, will be announced in approximately 30 days. >> To read more
Fox in Charge of Hen House?
In an violation of federal regulations, the U.S. Department of State has outsourced the responsibility to investigate possible crimes committed by contractors in Iraq. Federal Acquisition Regulation part 7.5 says it is not permissible to hire contractors for jobs "considered to be inherently governmental functions" including "the direct conduct of criminal investigations." >> To read more
Medical Device Kickbacks
Sens. Chuck Grassley (R-IA) and Herb Kohl (D-WI) have sent letters to Columbia University and the Cardiovascular Research Foundation (CRF) asking if they have received money from medical device manufacturers. Sen Kohl sent a similar letter to the American College of Cardiology asking them to explain their relationship with CRF. >> To read more
