Wackenhut Under the Glass
An audit shows that the Wackenhut Corporation overbilled Miami-Dade Transit more than $2 million a year for three-years for work its security guards did not actually perform. Dade County says Wackenhut has 90 days to respond to the findings and repay the county up to $6.2 million or risk having the contract cancelled on an emergency basis. >> To read more
FBI Raids Whistleblower Office
A dozen FBI agents raided the office and home of Scott Bloch, the head of the Office of Special Counsel, which is in charge of protecting federal employees who blow the whistle on malfeasance in government. The reason for the raid: Bloch himself is accused of repeatedly obstructing an investigation into improper retaliation against employees and of dismissing whistleblower cases without adequate examination. >> To read more
