Executive Director
Neil Getnick, Chairman of TAF and the TAF Education Fund, announced that Jeb White has been promoted to Executive Director of TAF and the TAF Education Fund, replacing Jim Moorman who will remain at TAF as President for at least several months before formally retiring. >> To read more
FBI Focus on Flying Fraud
The FBI has seized records from a company called Air Evac Lifeteam, which charged households an annual fee of $60 for allowing customers to call the air ambulance service directly, with the $5,000 to $10,000 bill (about 10 times the cost of a ground ambulance) sent to Medicare and Medicaid. >> To read more
GSA's Big Wink at Fraud
The Government Services Administration, or GSA, is the federal agency detailed to making purchases for many other federal agencies. Unfortunately, it appears GSA is so unclear on its job that it accepts direct kickbacks from federal contractors. David E. Cooper, the former director of acquisition and sourcing management at GSA, says GSA's contacting system is so dysfunctional and corrupt that billions of tax dollars may have been wasted.
Operators Not Standing By
AstraZeneca never got back to a whistleblower's who called the company's internal hotline in November of 2006. After waiting 5 months for a response, the employee sent a letter to the Office of Inspector General (OIG) of HHS, and forwarded copies of the letter to pharmaceutical industry web sites. HHS OIG is now investigating, and so is Capitol Hill. >> To read more
Amgen Subpoened by NY
New York Attorney General Andrew Cuomo has subpoened Amgen seeking documents related to the company's sales and marketing activities, medical education, clinical studies, pricing, contracting, licensing and distribution agreements.
