According to the most recent SEC Whistleblower Office report, the number of whistleblower tips increase from 3,001 in FY 2012 to 3,238 in FY 2013. These tips came from whistleblowers in the US as well as from 55 foreign countries. The most common complaint categories reported by whistleblowers in FY 2013 were Corporate Disclosures and Financials (17.2%), Offering Fraud (17.1%), and Manipulation (16.2%).

Four whistleblowers received awards in FY 2013 totaling $14.8 million dollars. The SEC also announced it had made the largest whistleblower award to date, awarding over $14 million to one whistleblower whose claim helped recover substantial investor funds less than six months after receiving the tip.    

In FY 2014, the SEC has issued an award of $875,000 to be split between two whistleblowers, and has used for the first time its authority under the Dodd-Frank Act to bring enforcement action against a company for retaliation against a whistleblower.
