About the TAF Education Fund:
Taxpayers Against Fraud Education Fund (TAFEF) is a nonprofit public-interest legal organization dedicated to combating fraud against federal and state governments through promotion of whistleblower reward programs. Through these whistleblower programs, TAFEF works to counter fraud in Medicare and Medicaid, defense contracting, educational loans, housing and other publicly-financed programs, as well as tax fraud and fraud in the securities and commodities markets. Job Description:
This one-year fellowship is a tremendous opportunity for a recent college graduate who is contemplating a career in the legal field. The fellow will assist in-house and TAFEF-affiliated attorneys with research related to the qui tam provisions of the federal and state False Claims Acts, as well as IRS, SEC and CFTC whistleblower programs. The fellow will be expected to research and summarize relevant legal documents, including recent False Claims Act cases, settlement agreements, complaints, and motions. The fellow will be expected to assist in the publication of TAFEF's False Claims Act Quarterly, a legal publication, as well as contribute to TAFEF's public outreach efforts. S/he will have the opportunity to converse with government contacts, learn about and stay current on major legal developments, liaise with other third parties such as staff at other legal organizations, and propose and carry out special projects.
This is an excellent opportunity for those who are interested in obtaining real-world legal experience before applying to law school.
Qualifications:Recent graduate with a distinguished academic achievement, interest in the legal system and fighting fraud, a strong desire to learn, and demonstrated creativity. Web design experience is a major plus, but is not required. State or federal legislative staff experience is also a major plus.
The position is full-time with an annual salary of $30,000 plus full benefits. The start date is approximately June 1, 2012. (Date is flexible based on applicant's graduation date.) Our office is located in the heart of Washington, D.C.
