Olympus America, maker of duodenoscopes, which are used to screen for colon cancer, has agreed to pay $646 million in civil and criminal fines to settle allegations the company was engaged in a massive kickback scheme in which doctors and hospitals were paid millions of dollars, and offered other inducements, in order to use Olympus products.
